Nicholas Brooke
Chairman,
Professional Property Services Group, Hong Kong

Nicholas Brooke is the chairman of Professional Property Services Limited, a specialist real estate consultancy based in Hong Kong that provides a range of advisory services across Asia Pacific. He is also chairman of the Hong Kong Harbourfront Commission and of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation .

Having spent the last 30 years in the region, Nicholas is a recognised authority and commentator on property-related and planning matters and a strong advocate of sustainable development and has advised on many major projects in Hong Kong and in the region. He is also heavily involved in sustainability and green technology initiatives in Hong Kong and in the Pearl River Delta and in the development of the latest phase of the Hong Kong Science Park as a showcase for “clean and green”.

Nicholas is a past president of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a former member of the Hong Kong Housing Authority and the Hong Kong Town Planning Board. He currently sits on the General Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Innovation and Technology Steering Committee and the Steering Committee on the Promotion of Electric Vehicles in Hong Kong. He is also a Trustee of the International Valuation Standards Council, which is responsible for the setting and policing of valuation practices and standards worldwide.

He is the Chairman of VinaLand Vietnam Real Estate Fund, the first Vietnam property fund listed on the AIM Board of the London Stock Exchange, and he also sits on the board of Shanghai Forte Land, one of the largest residential developers in Mainland China as well as Top Spring Holdings Limited, one of the leading developers of urban communities in the Mainland.

Chris Derksema

Chris Derksema manages a multi-disciplinary team at the City of Sydney Council that is responsible for developing and implementing policy, strategy and programmes to improve the environmental performance of the Council’s operations and the community. Chris played an integral role in the development of Sustainable Sydney 2030, a vision for the future of Sydney. He is now responsible for implementing actions to achieve the City’s environmental goals including the development of the Green Infrastructure Master Plan, which includes distributed energy (tri-generation and renewables), waste to energy technology and total water cycle management.

Paul James

Paul James is director of the Global Cities Institute in Melbourne, Australia and director of the United Nations Global Compact Cities Programme. The Global Cities Institute investigates  questions of sustainability, resilience, security and adaptation in the face of processes of globalisation and global climate change. Paul is also professor of globalisation and cultural diversity in the Globalism Research Centre at RMIT, Australia, an editor of Arena Journal, and sits on the Council of the Institute of Postcolonial Studies.

Professor Simon Joss
Lead Coordinator,
International Eco-Cities Initiative, United Kingdom

Professor Simon Joss is the lead coordinator for an international consortium of companies, research and policy organisations to define and advise on the current and future eco-cities research and policy agenda. The project is led by researchers and industry experts from seven organisations: Arup, Cardiff University, Imperial College, Queen’s University Belfast, United Nations Habitat Program, University of Westminster, University of West England, and Vaxjo City Council in Sweden.

Professor Joss has acted in various expert capacities for, among others, the Wellcome Trust, the UK government’s Sciencewise Strategy Group, the Institute of Public Policy Research, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He was appointed Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) in 2005.

Dr Uma Maheswaran

Dr Uma Maheswaran heads the sustainability unit at Jurong Consultants Pte Ltd.  He is also the Hon. Secretary of the ASHRAE Singapore Chapter and has been a Total Building Performance consultant to a number of iconic projects in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and China. He has been a sustainable consultant to projects in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City development. 

He is instrumental in creating the ETTV/RETV tool add-on to REVIT architecture named Helios, an architect’s tool for computing tropical façade heat gains.  His specialisation includes development and application of building performance simulation tools and tropical facade design.

Yoshifumi Murase

Ministry of Economy Trade & Industry, Japan

Yoshifumi Murase is responsible for the Smart Community initiatives at Japan’s Ministry of Economy Trade & Industry (METI). He joined the then Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 1990. He has taken various roles within METI, including as director in the policy planning and coordination division, as executive director of the Japan External Trade Organization, and as director of the trade policy bureau for Asia Pacific. Yoshifumi graduated from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University with a Masters in Public Administration in 1998.

Robbert Van Nouhuys

Robbert Van Nouhuys is an urban designer and landscape architect with more than 25 years experience in planning and design of international award-winning recreation, tourism and residential/commercial development projects in Asia and the Middle East. Over the years, Robbert has developed the specialist skills and expertise of incorporating a strong sustainability approach and concept in all of his projects. His often innovative ideas and attention to detail has lead to successful completion of a wide variety of projects, ranging from new capital cities, residential and resort developments, to large-scale tourism and recreation projects.

Robbert was involved in the Greening Master Plan for Hong Kong.

Jason Pomeroy

Jason Pomeroy is an award-winning architect, academic and director of International design practice Broadway Malyan. He moved to Asia from the firm’s London office in 2009 to establish the firm’s office in Singapore. In 2010, Jason founded Broadway Malyan’s Research and Development Studio, a specialist group that bridges the gap between academia and professional practice by applying academic research to commercial projects in the interests of sustainability and innovation. In addition to co-directing the Singapore office, Jason lectures and publishes widely, and is the author of “Idea House”.

Djoko Prihanto
Senior Vice President, Surbana Urban Planning Group,
Surbana International, Singapore

Djoko Prihanto is one of very few Singapore planners who has hands-on experiences in managing, executing and implementing large-scale regional and urban planning projects in Asia, Middle East and Africa.

Some of the key projects he has directed in the past five years include the 3,000 sq km Western Region and Colombo City Master Plan in Sri Lanka, the 2,500 sq km Al Wakra Municipality Master Plan and 1,500 sq km Al Khor Municipality Master Plan in Qatar, the 130 sq km Nyarugenge District and Kigali New Financial Centre (CBD) Master Plan in Rwanda, and the 4,350 sq km Mumbai Metropolitan Region Master Plan.

Djoko has also assisted various cities’ planning departments to build their capacity in the different areas of managing a master plan. These include preparing master plan implementation manuals, managing planning information in GIS and conducting training for urban planners.

Riccardo Rizzi

Riccardo Rizzi has more than 15 years experience in environmental management in diverse roles that include office construction, government regulation, airport management, environmental consultancy and industry.

He is currently Head of Sustainability for ISIS Group, a leading Australian company in fitout and refurbishment. Since 2006, ISIS has built over a third of all Australian Green Star Office Interior fitouts. ISIS is currently developing ways to cost effectively improve the environmental performance of fit-out projects

Jeff Robinson
Principal Engineer and Sustainable Buildings Leader,
Aurecon Group, Australia

Jeff Robinson is Aurecon’s Principal Engineer and Sustainable Design Leader for Asia Pacific. Jeff has worked as a consulting engineer for over 24 years working in London, Ireland and in Melbourne for the last 14 years. He has been involved in the design of a wide variety of building types including offices, residential, industrial, academic and institutional buildings and has worked on projects in Australia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and America.

Jeff is a passionate advocate for the design and renovation of environmentally sustainable buildings, and has been involved in many of the cutting edge ESD buildings in Melbourne and overseas. He advises clients on the sustainable redevelopment of their Commercial, Public and Educational buildings and has worked on many sustainable refurbishment projects in Australia. Jeff is an Accredited Green Star Professional, a LEED AP and NABERS Assessor and has considerable experience with the practical measures that can be undertaken to substantially improve the energy, water, waste and indoor air quality performance of existing buildings.

Recently, Jeff has been involved in the planning and design of a number of urban regeneration sustainable precinct projects, which he sees as being the way forward for sustainable development.

Elad Eisenstein
Associate Director and Design Leader, Integrated Urbanism
Arup, United Kingdom

Elad Eisenstein is an architect and urban designer who joined Arup in 2005 after completing his Masters degree in urbanism at The Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. Since joining Arup, Elad has won several international design competitions and led various high -profile sustainable urban design projects in the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Gulf.

Elad frequently lectures on sustainable urbanism, most recently at the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Nordic Urban Design Association (NUDA) and the UK India Business Council’s Sustainable Cities Seminar across the UK. He is also a design course tutor at the Housing and Urbanism programme at the Architectural Association Graduate School.

Emma Strain

Emma Strain leads the delivery of the Mayor of London’s portfolio of environmental projects focusing on energy efficiency and the development of the low carbon economy. This includes the award-winning retrofit programmes RE:NEW and RE:FIT which focus on delivering CO­2 savings and reducing energy bills for London’s homes and public buildings, along with a number of other programmes focused on mitigating climate change in London.

Emma worked for Transport for London in the Commissioner’s Delivery Unit focusing primarily on environmental policy and sustainable travel. Before that, Emma spent six years as a management consultant for PA Consulting Group specialising in project and programme management across a broad range of sectors including energy, banking, telecoms and retail.

Peter Stueck
Senior Associate

Peter Stueck joined AEDAS in 2006 and currently holds the position of senior associate. Peter has more than 13 years experience in architecture and his direct involvement in a wide range of projects across Europe, Asia and the Middle East have given him a strong design expertise which he applies to all projects. As a LEED-accredited Professional and Environmental Manager in the Singapore office, Peter has a keen interest in the promotion of sustainable design and building practice.

Peter studied architecture in Berlin, Germany and obtained his professional qualification there before moving to London to join Foster and Partners in 1998. During his five years with the British firm, he worked on several prestigious large scale projects, including the New Supreme Court Building in Singapore and the Universiti Teknologi Petronas campus in Malaysia, which won the Aga Khan Award for outstanding architecture in 2007. Peter left Foster and Partners in 2003 to set up his own design consultancy firm White Site Design, working on a range of projects from retail and interior design to residential projects. He also worked as a design consultant for other, larger firms, including a large scale residential project in India and a transport project in Dubai.

Dr George Sun

As deputy director at LTA, Dr George Sun takes care of policy review and innovations, strategic plan ning and development, cost- benefit analysis and system appraisal, management procedures, as well as public communications. Dr. Sun represents LTA on many inter-government agency committees, policy groups and taskforces related to sustainable deve lopment and energy efficiency. He speaks at regional and international conferences on various subjects of environmentally sustainable transport.

Andrew Waddelove
Cities Manager

As Cities Manager at PE International, Andrew is responsible for leading the development and delivery of the company’s software solutions for cities. This involves product development and project delivery for city clients internationally.

Andrew previously worked at BRE for 4.5 years across its Sustainable Communities service, providing advice to master planners and developers seeking to maximise the sustainability potential of their development proposals. This work included public engagement exercises and design charrettes.

Andrew was also responsible for managing BREEAM Communities, a certification standard for community-scale development projects. Within this role Andrew has overseen the delivery of bespoke assessment frameworks for a range of projects internationally and the final certification of schemes within the United Kingdom.

Dr Saaed Zaki
Managing Director,
dwp, Thailand

Dr Saeed Zaki , an architect, urban designer and urban planner by profession, has over 20 years of planning, design and management experience on projects across Asia for both private and public sector enterprises. Dr Saeed has successfully planned, designed and managed projects in Thailand, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Philippines and Cambodia. Saeed who holds a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Urban Planning from the reputed Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), also occasionally lectures at local and international institutes as a visiting faculty and has authored research papers in the area of urban planning and design.

Dr Saeed joined dwp,a global architecture and interior design firm, in 2007 as its managing director based in Thailand. He is also the dwp group’s eco-champion, leading the firm’s initiative globally in ensuring its commitment to sustainability. Under this role, Dr Saeed has established the group’s eco-strategy and its roll-out and implementation across all offices.

Professor Heng Chye Kiang ,
Dean, School of Design and Environment and Advisor, Centre for Sustainable Asian Cities,
National University of Singapore, Singapore

Professor Heng Chye Kiang is the Dean of the School of Design and Environment (SDE) at the National University of Singapore. In 2009, he set up at SDE the Centre for Sustainable Asian Cities, where he is now the advisor. He studied architecture at the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture, and urban design at the Ecole Nationale des Travaux Publics de I’Etat. He did his PhD. at the University of California at Berkeley.

He is a board member of Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority and the Centre for Livable Cities.

Prof Heng has been a visiting scholar at the Tsinghua University (China) and Kyoto University (Japan). He was also Visiting Professor at Hanyang University (Korea) and Keio University (Japan), and was the Huaying Visiting Professor at the Southeast University in Nanjing (China). He has served as a jury member in several international design competitions and on several editorial boards of international journals.

She is a member of ADB’s Urban Community of Practice and the Water Community of Practice

Jingmin received her PhD. in Engineering Science from Oxford University.

Dan Ringelstein

Dan Ringelstein brings a unique perspective to his many accomplishments in urban environments around the world. As an architect, urban designer and planner, he is interested in the physical characteristics of a place and how planning, urban design, infrastructure and architecture can create a positive public environment. This is evident in the strong role he has played in getting complex projects of significant magnitude planned, implemented and built around the world.

As the leader of SOM’s Urban Design & Planning Group in London, Dan directs projects which focus on the urban regeneration of our cities.

Following four years of experience in an architectural and urban design practice in France, Dan joined SOM in 1994. He was elected an Associate of SOM in 1997, in 1998 became Studio Head for Urban Design & Planning in Chicago and was named Associate Partner in 1999. In 2003, he joined SOM London to head Urban Design and Planning there and became a Director in 2005.
